DIY: Inspiration Board

Remember in art class when you used old magazines to cut out pieces and create a collage? Sometimes they had to be about food or animals, but other times you had to find pictures and words that described YOU. I have been inspired by these collages to create something a little different. Something I call an Inspiration Board. Last year, the graphics team on the yearbook staff created an inspiration poster for the graphics that went along with our theme. What if I made an inspiration board of my lifestyle? Perfect. So, that is what I have decided to do! Who wants to make one with me?

You will need:
Scissors
Glue
Magazines (old and new)
Cork board, poster, or foam board
Frame (optional)

Step 1: Find and cut out your pieces
Go through your magazines and cut out anything that inspires you. It can be words, clothes, items, people, anything. Be sure to think about color as well! TIP: Magazines are not the only things you can use to find inspiration. Finding pictures from the Internet or scrapbook paper work too. I am actually using old pages from my Lilly planner!

Step 2: Layout
Take all of your pieces and arrange them how you would like on your board. I prefer for mine to be a little scattered, but it's up to you. Keep in mind that this is YOUR inspiration board, so you may have to adjust to my instructions!

Step 3: Glue
If you're using a foam board or poster, glue down your pieces in the way you laid them out. For posters I would suggest using a glue stick if you have one. For foam board, I would suggest using tacky glue. If you're using a cork board, you can glue and use tacks if you wish. Again, this is YOUR board.

Step 4: (if you have a frame) Frame it.
For those of you not using a cork board and want to frame your inspiration board, be sure to measure your board before purchasing a frame. Also, make sure the it will fit depth wise inside the frame (especially if you're using a foam board). In this case, I would suggest using a frame made for canvas paintings. Michael's and Hobby Lobby are great arts and craft stores for you to purchase frames.

And... wala! You have an inspiration board! Since I have not finished mine yet, I do not have pictures to post. I will post pictures as soon as I finish, but if anyone finished before me, email your photos if you wish and your board may be featured!

Stay Classy,
The AL Prepster
